# Defer Interaction

> Acknowledge an interaction and show a loading state. Use this when your response will take a while.

- Only works in flows started by an interaction trigger (slash commands, buttons, dropdowns, modals, context menus).

**Inputs**

| Name | Required | Description | Value |

| `ephemeral` |  | Makes the eventual response visible only to the user who triggered the interaction. | `"true"`, `"false"` |
| `response_type` |  | Choose "simple" for text/modal/etc responses, or "advanced" for advanced message responses. Pick based on the type of response you will send later in the flow. | `"simple"`, `"advanced"` |
